ILLUMINATE LITERACY LLC

Welcome!
At Illuminate Literacy, I provide personalized reading intervention services designed to help struggling readers build the skills and confidence needed for academic success.
Each student begins with a review of screening results and targeted assessments to identify strengths and areas of need. Using this information, I develop an individualized plan focused on closing skill gaps and accelerating reading growth.
Instruction is grounded in research-based practices and aligned with the Science of Reading. Lessons are explicit, systematic, and engaging, targeting key areas of literacy, including phonological and phonemic awareness, decoding, word recognition, reading fluency, vocabulary, language comprehension, and reading comprehension.
Through targeted instruction and ongoing progress monitoring, students receive the support they need to make meaningful gains while developing confidence in their abilities. My goal is not only to improve reading skills but also to foster a positive attitude toward reading and learning.
The Importance of Reading Intervention
The primary goal of individualized reading intervention is to help students reach their reading goals and close achievement gaps through intentional, targeted instruction. Effective intervention includes evidence-based teaching strategies, supportive scaffolding, ongoing assessment, and progress monitoring to ensure instruction is responsive to each student's needs.
When reading difficulties are addressed early and systematically, students are better equipped to build essential literacy skills, gain confidence, and experience greater academic success. The benefits of effective intervention often extend beyond reading, leading to improved performance across all subject areas and a more positive attitude toward learning.
The Benefits of Early Intervention
1. Reading difficulties can be reduced or even eliminated with early intervention.
2. Reading intervention is more effective when provided during early elementary grades.
3. Students who have reading difficulties in the early elementary years do not "catch up" to their peers naturally, over time, in the absence of intervention.

Type of Instruction Provided
Research from the Science of Reading shows that students learn best through explicit, systematic, and cumulative instruction—an approach known as Structured Literacy. This method provides students with the foundational skills necessary to become successful readers.
Orton-Gillingham-based instruction has been used successfully for decades and is recognized for its structure; incorporating continuous review and guided practice. Using programs grounded in this research, I provide targeted instruction that addresses the underlying skill deficits and processing challenges that can create barriers to reading success.
By building strong foundational literacy skills and providing individualized support, I help students develop the confidence and strategies needed to become proficient, lifelong readers.
Illuminating Fact
DID YOU KNOW? ...
Reading to your child can have some pretty amazing results! Studies have shown that reading aloud can build vocabulary, improve comprehension and active listening (analyzing and reflecting on what is being heard), strengthen fluency and improve working memory!
